Ely in Bloom...in November?

Anyone who saw a group of young people outside the people station in Ely on Friday 13th may have been wondering what was happening...

Well, the girls and young women were all Girlguiding members from the Isle of Ely  Senior Section Group.  Several of them, with two Leaders and a Trefoil Guild supporter, were making the most of a break in the wet weather to plant bulbs in the flowerbed that Girlguiding has adopted as part of "Ely in Bloom".

To mark the 100 years since guiding began, the girls donned wet weather gear and high visibility jackets and planted over 100 daffodil, tulip and hyacinth bulbs, which should be a pleasure to see when Spring comes around.  Look out for them!

The Centenary Fund - applications now open!

Girlguiding UK is celebrating by giving girls a dream...

One hundred years of giving girls and women opportunities to come together to develop skills, confidence and build better communities is a significant achievement. What better way to celebrate this than by taking forward Olave Baden Powell’s vision of giving a girl a dream and creating a new fund for guiding - the Centenary Fund.

Guiding has grown and is now an important part of communities across the UK.  We have had a lasting impact on girls from vastly different backgrounds with equally different ideas of what they want and can achieve from their lives.

We strive to ensure that a lack of money won’t stop young women making the most of the opportunities open to them. The Centenary Fund builds on Olave Baden Powell’s original legacy and with your generous support, we can ensure that many more girls will realise that the biggest barrier to reaching their goals is their imagination!
